M.D. Anderson Cancer Center CancerWise

CancerWise is a monthly electronic publication that contains information about the latest advancements in cancer treatment and research, details about support programs and activities, cancer prevention tips, and other cancer news and information.

One of the design goals was to make this e-publication feel more like a printed publication. Headlines, informative teasers, the subtle use of color and creative typography all contribute to this effort. The use of narrowed columns and larger font sizes ensures good readability, while extra space between paragraphs and inset photographs provide visual breaks.

Another interesting aspect of the site is that users can navigate through the current issue using only a single mouse click. Article titles and teasers contained within the secondary navigation eliminate the need for an issue-specific table of contents, providing the visitor with a single-glance look at the entire scope of the current issue.

A full text-indexed search engine enables users to search for article titles, cancer types and other information contained in current and back issues. The site also includes a comprehensive glossary of cancer terms as well as an updated listing of cancer resources.

A Cold Fusion-based back-end gives writers and editors the ability to post new issues and articles. A workflow management feature expedites the approval process, and post/archive dating helps to automate the issue launches.
